Summary

Today I'm talking about homeschooling boys:  what they really need, understanding some of the ways that they tend to be wired and specifically what we have done as we homeschooled our 5 boys who are now 22, 20, 19, 17, and 13. Raising boys can be challenging.  Homeschooling them can bring the best mom/teacher to her knees (or tears), but OH the joy of boys!  I love our boys to the moon and back, but part of being able to enjoy our homeschooling journey required me to give up some of my ideal thoughts about what it was supposed to look like.  I had to decide whether I was going to insist that they measure up to what I felt like and now know are ridiculous and unnatural expectations or if I was going to encourage them to be everything that GOD made them to be!  It was one of the best decisions I ever made (more than once over the years) and I would do it all over again!(All sources mentioned are on my blog at durendawilson.com)

Hey everyone. This is Dorenda Wilson. Welcome to this week's podcast. Today I'm going to be talking about boys. I'm going to be talking about things to expect, things to require. I'm going to share what it looked and looks like. As we've

0:23.5

homeschooled our five boys, our boys are almost 23, 20, 19, 17, and 13. So we kind of got the

0:35.6

gamut right now. Most of them are adults. Most of them have graduated.

0:40.6

So I just feel like there's some things that I've learned along the way that I think hopefully

0:48.2

will be something you can use in your own life with your boys. There's, you know, sometimes it feels like we're raising

0:57.0

a different species. Does, does anybody else feel that way? Because sometimes their responses to

1:02.1

things or when I've like kind of wondered what they're thinking and I ask questions, it makes

1:08.2

me realize how very differently they think. And we talked a lot about

1:12.5

this in the last podcast. So if you haven't had a chance to listen to it, I encourage you to go back

1:17.2

and to listen to sort of the foundation that I laid before I moved into talking about these other

1:23.3

things. And the things that I mentioned today, not every single thing is going to work for everyone.

1:29.6

Some things will work now. Some maybe you'll use them later. But I'm all about just listening

1:38.3

to what the Holy Spirit is telling you. You know, everyone's experience will vary, but I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to find some ideas

1:47.1

in some of the things that I'm going to talk about that resonate with you.

1:51.5

Watch for those things, because like I said before,

1:54.4

that's most likely the Holy Spirit giving you wisdom.

1:58.0

You know, something's going to catch your attention that you're thinking,

2:00.7

you know what, I've already been thinking about that. And maybe this is confirmation that I'm

2:04.0

supposed to be doing that or changing that. So hopefully as you listen, a lot of things will

2:08.8

resonate with you and you'll be able to just gain some wisdom and some confidence, you know,

2:15.5

because, you know, it's kind of a scary thing,

2:21.8

raising boys sometimes, especially in this culture. And like I said, I talked about that more in the last podcast where I kind of laid that foundation. And that foundation is where I'm
