Summary

One of the keys in homeschooling boys is moving them from a place of dependency to a place of ownership.  If our boys OWN what they are doing, we won't be needing to push or cajole.  In fact, it may be all we can do to keep up with them!  The conquering spirit of boys is quite the sight to behold and it's an exciting, powerful thing to be a part of! What exactly is ownership?  Tim Elmore describes it like this: Ownership is the antithesis of entitlement. It’s the idea that my life is my own, which entails both freedom and responsibility: …For the decisions I make. …For the challenges I face. …For the money I spend or save. …For the people I choose to hang around. …For the future I prepare for. …For the mistakes I make. Today I'm sharing ways we can encourage our boys to OWN both their life and their education.  College isn't for everyone and is, in fact, becoming less and less relevant.  I'm sharing some great alternatives.  These suggestions aren't an exhaustive list, but they will hopefully give you hope and a vision for something that may be a better fit for your boys! Hey everyone. This is Dorenda Wilson. Welcome to this week's podcast. If you don't know me

0:14.0

already, I am married to Daryl. We have been married for 28 years. We have eight kids, ages 13 to 26, and five of those are boys. And that is really one of the

0:27.3

reasons that I decided to do a series of podcasts on boys, because they are clearly a very

0:33.9

different animal than girls, if you haven't already figured that out. So in the last two

0:39.8

podcasts, I've been talking about homeschooling specifically. Last week's episode was on homeschooling

0:47.0

junior high to high school, and the week before was on elementary school. So if you haven't listened to

0:51.4

those, you may want to go back and listen to some of the specifics on that.

0:55.0

Also, if you haven't connected with me on Facebook or Instagram, you can find me there.

1:06.1

I have been hearing from moms who have been listening to the podcasts on boys, and it has been so encouraging

1:12.1

because, you know, sometimes you feel like God's laying something on your heart, and then you

1:17.3

kind of second-guess yourself. And what I'm finding is most moms are feeling a little

1:25.0

uncertain about raising boys and certainly about homeschooling them.

1:30.6

So hopefully you have found some nuggets of truth, some words of wisdom, some direction

1:37.5

that's going to bring a whole lot more peace as you raise your boys. I'm telling you,

1:43.0

they are the bomb. I love our boys. And, you know,

1:46.8

there were days I didn't love it so much, but I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world,

1:51.3

especially as I see them going into adulthood and just being the great men that they're becoming.

1:56.7

It just makes all the difficulties along the way and misunderstandings and figuring things out worth it.

2:04.7

So last week, like I said, I talked about homeschooling a junior high and high school,

2:09.2

and the week before was elementary school.

2:12.1

Do you guys remember, if you listened to that last week's podcast,
