This week as we continue our series about engaging the holiday season in all of its

complexities, Dan is joined by his daughter-in-law, Sassie, to talk about how to hold and

offer goodness while entering someone else's home.

Sassy Share is what she has learned about adapting to new environments with love, trust, and communication.

We're in the middle of thinking about what it means to return to your own family, and I have the privilege of being with my daughter-in-law. And we'll do this

slowly in terms of what we call her, what her friends and family call her as sassy. And though

her given name is Elizabeth. And what do you prefer? Sassy for this particular circumstance. Yeah. So I think

when people hear a name like that, they of course wonder how in the world did you get that name?

Well, I was 14 years old and I was a competitive swimmer when I was that age in high school.

And I happened to be swimming an individual medley where you perform all four strokes.

And I was swimming backstroke in my 200 individual medley race. And my coach was

telling me to go faster, which I know was supposed to encourage me, but I felt I was going as fast as I

could at that moment. And so I just politely sat up in the middle of the race and said, I am going as

fast as I can right now.

Just let me do my work.

And then went back to swimming.

And that was kind of a sassy thing to say.

And so that's where it came from.

Well, my experience with your namesake, with you, was the first time we were driving home from picking you and Andrew up at the ferry,

and probably it couldn't have been more than about a five-minute drive that we were in.

It was about a 15-minute total drive.
