Summary

1600 years ago Christians began calling the last days of Jesus’ life “Holy Week.” Today is Spy Wednesday. Seth and David talk about the sober choice Spy Wednesday, the day Jesus was covered in an expensive perfume by Mary and betrayed by Judas, offers us.

1:08.0	Let's jump in. Well, welcome everyone to Holy Wednesday. This is the day that we remember two specific things that happened during Holy
1:12.2	Week, right? Yes, that's right. One is Judas agreeing to betray Jesus. And two, Jesus being
1:19.3	anointed by a jar of perfume in Bethany. Yes. What's interesting about this day of Holy Week is that on actual Wednesday of Jesus' last life on earth, we don't really know what happened.
1:34.2	If you read the gospel accounts, it seems that Jesus might have done some additional teaching to the temple.
1:39.2	It seems as of potentially the chief priests and the religious elite are plotting actively for a way to
1:47.4	bring Jesus down. But what we remember on this day is precisely what you just said. The
1:53.8	anointing of Jesus by Mary with expensive perfume and the betrayal of Jesus. And I think the
1:59.8	way that we're supposed to understand it in the narrative of Holy Week is that up into this every day of Holy Week, Jesus has been making increasingly extravagant claims about who he is and what he's come to do.
