Angela Ferraro-Fanning is a Cornell University-certified permaculturist and homesteader in central New Jersey. She practices regenerative homesteading that mimics natural patterns. Her six-acre historic farm is home to working Clydesdale horses, honey bees, all sorts of livestock and fowl, a small orchard, a hobby vineyard, and food forest gardens. Angela is the author of several books, including The Little Homesteader series, The Harvest Table Cookbook, and The Sustainable Homestead. She also co-hosts a podcast called HOMESTEADucation.

1:13.7	Angela Ferraro Fanning and you have a very interesting story you've done a lot of
1:18.3	really cool stuff and I know you started off is beginning a homestead sometime around like 2012 but I'd love to hear a little bit about yourself and your journey into homesteading and everything else around it.
1:30.0	Yeah, sure, thank you so much for having me here. I'm happy to be here. So I started out as an ornamental hobby gardener.
1:38.0	I used to have a graphic and website design business and I've always been eco-friendly.
1:42.0	It was an eco-friendly graphic and website design business that I ran.
1:45.0	And I found myself just getting so burned out on being behind a computer all day long.
1:50.0	I would find... I wouldn't find myself. I did it on purpose. I would cancel my meetings to go outside
1:56.7	if it was a nice day so I could be in the garden because I needed that connection. And, you know, eventually after I had my first child I was like I don't
2:07.2	want to do this anymore and so I decided to take my interest in gardening, which was largely ornamental, but I had a little
2:15.9	vegetable plot, and say to my husband, could I teach myself to really grow our own food, preserve it, try to eat from the garden as best
2:26.5	we can year round, do bees for honey, and trade in my paycheck so that I could be outside
