Hello my friends Kevin here from Epic Gardening we are recuperating resting and

0:16.7

planning for 2024 so today's episode is a rerun of some of our favorites from years past.

0:23.6

Hope you enjoy.

0:24.6

Today we are going to be talking about some house plant

0:29.3

misconceptions, if you will.

0:31.1

I wouldn't call them outright myth, just misunderstandings or

0:33.6

simplifications that aren't quite helpful for your indoor house plant garden.

0:38.0

Now here would be one to start it off. We'll do three or four of these in today's

0:41.9

show. The first would be that the bigger the pot the bigger the plant and to some degree this is true because if you put a plant in a tiny pot it can only go so far as far as its roots are concerned, the level of moisture, the

0:54.6

level of nutrition in the soil, but just because a plant's in a bigger pot does not mean

0:59.9

it's going to grow to some insane degree like it's becoming supercharged.

1:04.3

Remember, these plants would natively be in the ground or if they're epiphytic, sort of

1:08.7

nestled in between the cracks of trees and such, maybe between some rocks. They're not growing to some

1:14.2

massive level simply because they're in the ground and there's ample space.

1:18.8

They're going to grow as fast as the environment and their conditions as well as their plant genetics allow them to grow.

1:25.6

And so, well, I will say a lot of people under pot their plants is too small and

1:30.0

it causes it to be root-bound and that will eventually cause slow growth, it's not necessarily the case that just

1:36.7

putting it in a bigger pot will make it grow faster.

1:39.7

Okay, the next one is that if you water out of the tap you're going to kill your plant.

1:46.5

Again, this really isn't true. A lot of people will throw their water through a filter,

1:51.6

like a Brita filter, or they'll go to the extreme and use

1:54.7

R.O. Water, which means reverse osmosis. reverse osmosis water is pure water.
