That is a date that is written in stone. The first atomic weapon is used in anger.

I welcome Charles Pellegrino. He is the author of To Hell and Back, last train from Hiroshima,

which is the story in great detail of the building of and launching of and dropping of the weapons

that we remember as the atomic bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It begins with decision making in Washington, D.C., which is why I give you the time in Washington, D.C.,

with 7.15 pm on August 5, when the bomb exploded 8.15 am in Hiroshima.

The committee that made this decision was made up of distinguished VIPs of universities and also government,

led by James Burns, Henry Stemson, the Secretary of War, and James Burns, former U.S. Senator,

about to be Secretary of State from Mr. Truman.

It had others of great note, Vannever Bush, director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development,

men from Carnegie, men from Harvard, but most importantly, because in the news these days is the movie Oppenheimer.

The scientific panel advising the interim committee to make the decision to drop the bomb,

consisted of Enrico Fermi and Arthur Compton of the Manhattan Project,

a earnest Lawrence of the Radiation Laboratory, and J. Robert Obenheimer, who directed the assembly of the two bombs.

The two bombs used an anger. One little boy, that's the Hiroshima bomb, Hiroshima bomb, and two fat men.
