today is a polarizing trailblazer who has had a front row seat too and personally shaped American history over the last 40 years.

Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Born Hillary Rodham in Chicago to a textile manufacturer Clinton. University where during her freshman year she led the Young Republicans Club

before becoming a Democrat because of civil rights issues and where in 1969 she was

the commencement speaker delivering remarks that received a seven-minute

standing ovation and brought her national media attention for the first time.

She subsequently graduated from Yale Law School in 1973, where she had been one of just 27 women in a class of 235, and

where one of her classmates, who she began dating in 1971, was Bill Clinton, who she would follow back to his home state of Arkansas in

1974 and marry in 1975.

Bill was elected in 1976, the's Attorney General and in 1978 the State's Governor.

In 1980, he lost his gubernatorial re-election bid, but then in 1982 won back the position, which he would hold until 1992, when he ran for

and was elected the 42nd President of the United States.

Hillary, meanwhile, had been busy making her own name, joining and ultimately becoming the first female

full partner at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, the oldest law firm west of the Mississippi.
