Summary

Henry Johnson was a private in the all black 139th Infantry regiment. Known as the "Harlem Hellfighters", the unit served valiantly during the First World War. On May 14, 1918, Johnson single-handedly fought off an attack by 40 enemy soldiers. Despite his heroic efforts and being wounded 21 times, it took nearly 100 years for Johnson's contributions to be recognized by the United States government.
