Dollar stores are a spot of green on the weathered gray retail landscape. In fact,

they make up four out of ten stores opening in the U.S. this year. The concept is simple. Products

cost a dollar or less, but no one is immune from price increases, and one major player is planning

to make a fast buck. While the pandemic has created more demand for stores that offer low-cost goods to cash-strapped customers,

inflation, supply chain issues, and labor shortages hit them hard.

Last year, we told you that Giants Dollar General and Dollar Tree were experimenting with more upscale spin-offs offering goods at higher price

points. And now, the unthinkable has happened. Late last month, Dollar Tree, which CNN calls,

quote, one of the last true dollar stores, announced that it would be bumping its prices,

25% on most goods by April.

Hmm, you can probably do the math there.
