They had no clue why something like this would happen.

You're listening to The Daily Crime. On February 26th of this year, a college student in Louisiana named Marquez Jones dropped his mom off before stopping by an aunt's birthday party with plans to head to a party with friends in New Orleans after that.

When I got out the car, we first about slamming each other car doors.

And I said, I'm about to slam this car door. And we joked about that.

And he said, I'll be back. I'm going to kickback in Newark.

This would be the last time, Marquez's mother would see him alive.

He reportedly had left a party in New Orleans on

Nzaga Street, February 26. But after that, it's unclear what happened. Jade Cunningham,

reporter with WWL TV in New Orleans, Louisiana. Can I have you start by telling me about

Marquez Jones, this young man who went missing this past February?

Yeah, so just after speaking with his family and friends, Marquez Jones just seemed like a wonderful person.

He was 21 years old, a college student at Southern University, and he was studying nursing,

something that his great aunt told me was a passion of his. He absolutely loved that.

He's in nursing school. He's trying to have a good teacher. He loved it. He loved it. He's excited

about being away from home, being in college, and he just loves his family.

His mom just said he was on the dean's list.

So just a good student trying to enjoy life.

And he loved helping others.

He was one of six kids, and family to him was everything. Apparently their family was very tight-knit, very close, always in contact with each other. He was always watching out for siblings, brothers and sisters. And, you know, loved being with friends. And like I said earlier great, a great kid, if you want to call him a
