crimes last year.

Increases that average 11% to a record 2,173 cases.

This is from a piece in Axios not long ago.

And the third straight year of spikes in major surges in hate crimes

came, of course, as the Israel-Hamass War. Spark jumps in anti-Muslim hate and anti-Jewish hate crimes

in the final month, months of 2023.

So we were on course last year to end the year with one of the largest annual drops and homicides on record,

but the hate crimes still went up.

Hate crimes are typically defined as violence stemming from victims' race, color,

sexuality, religion, and national origin.

This was the largest percentage spike of the nation's 10 largest cities last year.

San Diego, Chicago, LA had records going back to the early 1990s when National Hate Crimes

Data Collection began.
