United States after four months in Eastern Europe. Ryan turned himself in on Tuesday and appeared

in court yesterday. He's been charged with a misdemeanor for obstructing an investigation.

According to Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Pudal, Ryan flew back willingly, citing his family as the

primary reason for his return. Pudal hasn't shared many details about Ryan's time abroad or why

he staged the disappearance in the first place. Here's what we do know. Ryan, 45,

disappeared in August during what appeared to be a routine fishing trip on Green Lake. Authorities

searched for seven weeks, finding only his kayak and some personal items. However, evidence eventually

pointed to Ryan fleeing the country by way of Canada, ultimately ending up in Europe.

Investigators made contact with him in November.

Ryan's return marks a dramatic turn in this case. In court, he explained that he couldn't afford

an attorney and even offered to represent himself. Judge Mark Slate entered a not guilty plea

on Ryan's behalf and set a $500 signature bond. If convicted,

Ryan could face up to nine months in jail and a $10,000 fine. The sheriff also revealed

that Ryan had meticulously planned his disappearance from transferring funds to a foreign bank

account to using an inflatable boat and an e-bike to evade detection.
