A major headline today in the effort to distribute COVID vaccines across the United States,

the CDC and FDA calling for a pause in the use of the Johnson and Johnson single shot vaccine out of an abundance of caution.

The agencies are reviewing data involving six cases of a rare, severe type of blood clot

in individuals after receiving the vaccine.

This is difficult timing for a pause in one of the just three vaccines approved for emergency use in the United States.

Johnson and Johnson had the goal of delivering 100 million shots to Americans by the end of May.

The company was already impacted by manufacturing issues after a plant run by

emergent bio solutions ruined some 15 million doses of the vaccine.

More than 22% of Americans are now fully vaccinated against the virus.
