Hi everyone and thank you for joining us for the 417th episode of Awards Shatter,

the Hollywood Reporter's Awards podcast. I'm Scott Feinberg, the host and also a trustee professor

at Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. And for those of you tuning in,

I should say that this is a special live episode being recorded at Chapman's Felino

Theatre in Orange, California, in front of an audience of my students and other members of

the community of this great film school. My guest today is a Hollywood Trailblazer,

a great actress who was one of the first black bond girls who was the first black comic book

movie super heroine and who to this day remains the only black winner of the Best Actress Oscar.

Though she is also an Emmy Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award winner,

she is not one to rest on her laurels and she is now marking her 30th year in the business

by doing something that she has never done before. Directing. The audience here has just seen

her directorial debut, Bruce, in which she also stars as an MMA fighter with problems at home.

And so have a lot of other people. Indeed, in its first week on Netflix, it was the most watch

movie on the platform in America and in 20 other countries. So I hope and expect we will be seeing

a lot more from her, both in front of and behind the camera. Would you please join me in welcoming
