All right, welcome back to Gun Talk.

I tell you what, we're going to do something a little bit different here.

We're going to do a little quick intro and then run to a break because we have on hold, Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the NRA, and I don't want to cut him short. So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to introduce what we're talking about. Run to this break. So I'm going to give you the inside information of what we're doing here. We're going to be talking about HR 5175.

It's called Disclose.

It was a bill to reinstate and expand the restrictions on free speech of McCain-Feingold Bill, which was, at least in part, overturned by the Supreme Court. The NRA opposed 5175. The Democrats put together a deal.

It's called a carve-out for the NRA.

At that point, the NRA announced that it would not participate in the debate about the bill,

even though they opposed it.

Now, here's where it gets very weird in Byzantine, okay?

I call this Beltway Byzantine.

The very fact that the NRA was cut out of the bill may very well have killed the bill, since the most rabid gun banners, like Diane Feinstein, say they won't support the bill if the NRA doesn't face the same draconian free speech restraints

that they plan to impose on their other political enemies while exempting their political partners like the labor unions.

So last Thursday evening, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pulled the bill, H.R. 5175. It's probably going to come back and we're kind of

waiting to see how this thing works out, but there are definitely people in Congress who are

bent on passing this clearly unconstitutional measure that they're regrouping at the moment.

So that's kind of the background.

And so in order to make sure we have plenty of room for Wayne LaPierre, we're going to take a quick break here.
