The response by the U.S. the, and a coalition of 42 states deploys the US Army along with

other combat elements of all the other nations into Saudi Arabia, into the starting line for the first Gulf War.

I have a veteran of the first Gulf War, as a good friend and colleague, Colonel Jeff McCausen, the United States Army retired, now

CBS News and visiting Professor Dickinson College, as well as the CEO of Diamond Six leadership

Well, we had deployed to Saudi Arabia following the invasion in August and early December

after President Bush announced a

reinforcement of the forces thereby adding the seventh Corps from Germany.

We had moved north. We were in the Northeastern and border of Saudi Arabia and Iraq and had deployed our unit there in a defensive posture, hopefully to deter an attack by the Iraqis.

I was in a tent late at night. We knew the negotiations had

ended in Geneva and there was an expectation that an air war would begin. The
