Strauss is on the farmer on the roof that's his Instagram all one. It'll be in the podcast description. As I mentioned yesterday, I visited Robert's home in Barcelona where he's growing quite literally on every level of a five-story townhouse I guess you might call it

Robert yes yeah that's what we would call it okay and the thing that I noticed is

just how many different micro gardens he had including some stuff in the ground.

And as you heard yesterday, he's grown in many gardens in the ground as well.

So Robert, I'm curious, for someone who's done a pretty extensive amount of both

types of growing, what would you say are the main advantages, disadvantages to both of them?

Well, it's an interesting topic, Kevin, and when you asked me to be on the show I had to really think about it.

First I just want to say that I don't have or I didn't have any significant experience

growing in containers or on a roof.

So I started not knowing anything and I made a lot of mistakes at first.

We can go into those later.

But I have thought of a couple of things that anybody would need to know if they do want to plant on a roof.

And the first one might surprise you.

It's safety.

You've been to my place and you get really enthusiastic about gardening up on the roof.

Well, when you're gardening in the ground,

you don't ever think about falling.

But as you know, at my place, if I were to fall,

I can drop a good 20 feet or so and really hurt myself. So I have been increasingly

taking measures to make sure that the roof is really safe. And one of the things I've done is

made sure that all the paths that I work from are on the interior and not on the outside of any of the levels or ledges or patios that I work from.
