Summary

Nearly all of us have experienced grief this year – whether it’s the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the loss of normalcy. In this episode, Hillary talks with stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt and Sybrina Fulton, advocate and mother of Trayvon Martin, about finding purpose after a terrible loss.

Patton Oswalt is an award-winning stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. After the tragic death of his wife Michelle McNamara, he finished the book she was working on: I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: The Search for the Golden State Killer. The book was recently turned into an HBO documentary series of the same name. His newest stand-up special, I Love Everything, is out on Netflix.

Sybrina Fulton is an advocate and the mother of Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed in 2012. Along with Trayvon’s father, Tracy Martin, Sybrina co-founded The Trayvon Martin Foundation to empower families who have lost children to gun violence. Sybrina recently campaigned for a seat on the Miami-Dade County Commission, ultimately losing by less than one percent.
