Summary

The Fellows discuss St. Gregory of Nyssa's Catechetical Discourse, a series of objections and answers to confessions of the Christian faith. It was designed to educate new Christians on essential doctrines like the Trinity and atonement. Caleb leads the conversation by asking how the catechesis of the past can inform Christian education today.

Hello, thinking fellow's listeners. This is Caleb Keith with a quick message about today's

0:25.0

episode. Unfortunately, there was an issue and my father's audio was not captured. Now, I spent

0:32.5

a couple of days listening to a whole episode, cutting out the parts of the conversation to the

0:39.6

best of my ability that were messed up with by this so you can listen to the whole episode

0:45.4

unfortunately he did contribute quite a bit when it came to two specific topics that you'll hear

0:52.7

he contributed to a section on the atomit and Atonement theories,

0:57.3

where he talked about Abilardian Atonement and the relationship of the various

1:01.8

atonement theories together.

1:03.7

So you will be missing a little bit of that conversation.

1:06.9

He also contributed to an idea that I postured coming out of Greg Nissa here about catechesis,

1:15.3

where I said, where I suggested or questioned whether or not this should adjust our framework of how we approach people who are new to the faith and things like inviting people to our churches and stuff. And I did

1:28.3

propose a controversial hot take in this conversation that you'll still hear, which is maybe we should

1:34.9

wait to invite people to church until we can do some groundwork, depending on their backwork

1:40.9

and their history with Christianity. My father had a lot of ideas about that, too,

1:47.2

and unfortunately those got cut. And I do want to assure listeners that part of my conversation was

1:51.5

cut there too where I'm not suggesting the people not be invited to our churches. It was more

2:00.2

a set of ideas about, is there a better way to do this?

2:04.2

Is there a timing structure? And also can Christians who are inviting people to church or having

2:11.0

these conversations shoulder some of the catacletical responsibility with the people we invite,

2:17.3

instead of just passing off that our mere job

2:21.7

as Christians and his neighbors is to say, come to my church, and then our work is done.

2:28.3

And so that was part of that conversation that unfortunately got cut, but you will hear most of it.
