0:49.1	months away, U.S. governors have become the first line of defense against the pandemic's winter onslaught.
0:57.3	With the holidays around the corner, many local authorities have little choice but to act as the virus sets daily records across the country.
1:07.4	But first, here's what happened in virus news today.
1:13.9	A COVID-19 vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca was shown to prevent a majority of people from getting the disease.
1:24.0	Although positive news, the vaccine fell short of the bar set by those in development by Pfizer and Moderna.
1:32.4	On average, the Oxford and AstraZeneca vaccine prevented 70% of cases in large trials in the UK and Brazil.
1:42.3	AstraZeneca announced that it would prepare to file its data to global regulators,
1:47.5	including an emergency use listing from the World Health Organization.
1:53.0	Italy has become the second nation in the European region, after the UK, to reach 50,000 deaths
