We have to talk about the governor.

He made a big announcement today about child care affordability.

Yesterday, he signed a housing affordability bill, and that law is aimed at making it easier

and cheaper to build new housing here in Indiana.

Legislation focuses on increasing housing supply, and it requires cities and counties to review local zoning rules, also identify barriers

to building new homes, and report on housing development progress each year.

It also encourages changes like reducing parking requirements, allowing smaller lots, high-density

housing, also loosening some design and aesthetic rules.

Yeah, as with most things, there's good and bad that I see here.

I mean, give the lawmakers and Braun some credit on this because this is really mostly a deregulation bill,

which is, I'm as a conservative, all for deregulation.

So it cuts limits on local zoning rules, speeds up approvals for new construction,

allows more types of housing to be built without public hearings, all of those good deregulation.

The problem that I see that this bill may run into is that it allows a lot of opt-out

provisions to cities and counties.

So if counties and cities don't want to participate in this, they can be just doing, you

know, fine.
