The Republican Party seeking a nominee for the 2024 presidential contest. The former vice

president, extremely well-known from his travels during the Trump administration, in conversation

with Josh Rogan, writing for the Washington Post, looks like a man who's ready to talk

about foreign policy and in particular Ukraine policy, always in the news now because of

the threats by the Russian Federation's Vladimir Putin. And because of the apparent mysterious

handling of this story by other candidates in the Republican field, that would be the

former president, Donald Trump, and the governor of Florida, Mr. DeSantis.

Josh, a very good evening to you. Your conversation with Mike Pence, were you surprised

by his pro-Ukraine stance being so starkly in contrast to his rivals for the nomination?

Good evening to you.

Well, good evening, John. What surprised me was when he showed up unexpectedly in Kiev

just three weeks after announcing his run for the presidency and met with Vladimir Zlinsky

and called for the United States to support more robust military support for Ukraine. Because

at that time, the conventional wisdom held that the Republican Party was souring on the

Ukraine effort. And if you watch Fox News or you listen to President Trump and even

Ron DeSantis on two out of every four days, it seems that the politics are pointing in

the opposite direction. But Mike Pence has made a different calculation. And I think after

speaking with him for an extended period of time this week, I came to two conclusions.

Juan, I think he's doing this because he knows that the thing that he has, the advantage

that he has is the experience argument. He was governor. He was on the House Armed Services

Committee. He was vice president. He traveled around the world. I traveled around the world
