0:08.9	In the time it takes to get to work. I'm Jeff Parrott.
0:13.3	There's a peculiar variety of plants in the wild that confounds our expectations of how life can and should work.
0:22.6	After these plants endure a significant amount of time without water,
0:26.6	they appear exactly like you'd expect.
0:29.6	They slowly dry up and shrivel.
0:32.6	They look and feel completely dead,
0:35.6	as if life has been extinguished. Death through desiccation.
0:41.5	But that's where things get interesting. Months and months of this dried out decay can persist.
0:49.2	But once this variety of plant is given water again, it seems to come back to life, even within a day.
0:58.0	Photosynthesis continues, and life begins to flourish the way it was before.
1:03.9	Just as it seemed like life was extinguished, it emerges again.
1:09.9	It's no surprise that scientists give this category of plant life the moniker resurrection plants.
1:16.4	It's quite a nickname.
1:18.1	And of course, in the truest sense, these plants don't truly and fully resurrect,
1:23.3	since they don't actually die.
1:25.9	They only appear to be dead.
1:28.1	But that nickname sticks because of how incredibly relentless these plants are.
1:33.5	They seem to beat all the odds that normally function in the natural world.
1:39.5	They can go from looking and feeling as if life is completely cut off, only to find that it very much
1:46.3	continues. It's the relentless continuation of life in the face of death. That relentless
