Summary

This is a very special bonus track of a talk Pastor Jeff Durbin gave at an intimate Bible study at Apologia Church. This is not a Sunday worship service but a small gathering of believers in an informal setting. 0:00.0	So I want to start this by reading just this is going to be an extended reading of Dr.
0:06.1	Boots first a couple pages here starting on page 253 of Mission of God.
0:12.2	I think it'll help to give a little bit of background,
0:15.3	relevance, historical study that's important. So this is something that's often
0:20.8	missed by us today as modern evangelicals. We miss the fact that as Christendom
0:26.0	has been moving throughout the world since the inception of the church, the kingdom of
0:30.9	God in the world, as the gospel was proclaimed in any society, and as that
0:36.0	society was transformed all the way up to its level of government, it was always assumed. It's just assumed in Christian to societies that you look to the law of God as the standard of righteousness and justice in a society.
0:52.0	It was just assumed. So whether you're talking
0:54.5	about Ireland converting to Christ and pointing to the law of God, whether you're
0:58.9	talking about John Knox in Scotland, whether you're talking about the Puritans coming over to the
1:05.0	United States and pointing to the law of God. We're going to actually show some examples of
1:08.6	that tonight. It was just assumed. If you were the king of a Christian nation, it was assumed if you were the king of a Christian nation it was assumed that as the king
1:16.0	you had the duty you were duty bound to obey God to to to increase the gospel of Jesus Christ and to point to the law of God in your
1:26.4	statutes and so it was assumed that a king had to obey God's law and point to
1:31.2	God's law. Dr. Booth gives some examples of that,
1:33.8	but first, this quote from Samuel Rutherford,
1:37.1	he says, to me, it is a wonder that the old and new
1:40.2	testament which containeth an exact system and body of all morals should not be
1:45.1	the only rule of all morals.
1:48.9	Dr. Booth continues, he says, in the 9th century AD,. King Alfred the great inaugurated codified English law with the 10 commandments in a D 1540 King King Henry VIII established seven cities of refuge based on the biblical model of numbers
