devotional. Hey, welcome to the Daily Drive podcast. I'm Mike Bro, and we are walking through a story

this week that is found in the New Testament book of John, chapter 4,

it's this amazing encounter between Jesus and a shame-filled woman with a past.

You know, I was thinking how shame is such a dangerous enemy.

It goes beyond just attacking what you've done.

It focuses on who you are.

It goes beyond that was so bad to you are so bent. It makes you feel worthless,

irreparable, hopeless, alone, makes you want to avoid everyone else and make you want to come

to the well in noon. And this is where she is. And she is unexpectedly one-on-one with Jesus at this

well. She just wants to get in and out as quickly as

possible, and this guy strikes up a conversation with her, talks about how he could give her

living water, how he could quench her real thirst. And then this total stranger, Jesus, reveals her

past. He knows everything about her. Well, she's taken back, to say the least, by his knowledge of her

past, so she does what we do in awkward moments. She changes the subject. She says, verse 19,

well, sir, I can see that you're a prophet. Our ancestors worship on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship

is in Jerusalem.

I just love the raw humanity of this woman.
