Hi everybody.

This short segment is what we call for the good of the order.

It's something we used to do at the end of my sorority meetings, if you can believe that,

where someone would share something that they came across in the course of the week, a poem, a song lyric, a short story, that they found enormously helpful as they went about daily life.

And I wanted to pick up the thread because I am so often wowed by something I see in the world

that I want to bring back and hand off to you.

So every Friday we produce a short segment called for the good of the order.

Think of it like an audio greeting card, a thing to share with the people that you love around the country

who you don't get to see or talk to enough. A thing to discuss with the people you do see and talk to

on a more regular basis.

This is Kelly Corrigan Wonders for the good of the order. Oh, This week's go-to is about something that I bet is on all of our minds which is how to get along better as citizens in a

country that has lots of different agendas held by lots of different people some of

whom are in our immediate families. So I wanted to back up and

pull some information from a book that I read that I loved. It's by Monica Guzman, and it's called I never thought of it that way. So a few things she

surfaces in the opening pages of the book is that there are a lot of

identifiable reasons

why we seem to be at each other's throats.

So one is the advent of like this 2D online life

where you can be much more vicious,

and which is a sorting mechanism at its most efficient, putting us into our silos of like-minded people

who bolster our opinions and help us hold them with probably too much conviction.

And then she draws this point about World Wrestling Federation and Sports Talk Radio, which kind of gamifies the idea of othering and gives us many, many models who are
