According to Project Home.org, in 2017 there were over a half million homeless people in the United States,

and more than 30% of them were not in shelters.

Over 40,000 of the United States homeless people are veterans.

40,000 people who served this country currently have nowhere to live.

And that doesn't begin to scratch the surface of the other half million men, women, and children

who go without food or shelter every day.

These numbers may be even higher than reported because as Project Home points out, there are so many homeless people living

in hiding, taking refuge in abandoned cars or houses.

Over 15,000 Philadelphians every year seek support from shelters.

But the number of people who need shelters could actually be higher

because folks are turned away due to shelters operating at full capacity.

There are so many reasons why someone could experience homelessness.

Cost of living is just one of many not only in Philadelphia but around the country.

Minimum wage just doesn't cut it.
