Summary

There are so many parenting debates happening right now in the culture at large. Screentime. Discipline. Anxiety.

But what if we’re focused on the wrong things?

Instead of trying to fix and manage the problems, what if we cultivated the solution?

What if the environment we cultivate is the very thing our children need?

In this episode, Josh talks about their current parenting journey, the two competing worldviews that influence how kids experience joy, and how we can give our kids joy permission.

Here are some highlights:
  • How two competing worldviews influence the amount of joy in our home
  • Why we need joy permission
  • Why resourcefulness is a cheat code for helping kids live joyful lives
  • The one way to step into joy this week as a family, no matter how difficult the season you find yourself in right now

I got this on video and I'm so grateful that I did is there's a video of Micah taking the ball,

0:07.5

dribbling the ball down the field and scoring his first soccer goal ever in a game with his

0:12.1

jersey everything. And he's already proud his punch that he's got a jersey on. And the video is only

0:17.5

13 seconds long. It is him dribbling down the field, scoring the goal,

0:22.2

and then turning around and sprinting as fast as he can right back to me, his father,

0:28.3

with the biggest smile on his face. And the video is just such gold because what I realized in

0:36.6

that is how much joy and excitement I had as a father,

0:41.9

not watching him score his first goal, but watching the joy on that kid's face.

podcast. Today we are coming out of a few different interviews, and I wanted to talk a little bit

1:14.3

about the journey of parenting, some lessons that we are learning, but also more than anything,

1:19.2

I want to encourage, I think, each of us as it relates to the journey of being a parent.

1:27.9

You know, there's so much overwhelm, anxiety in our culture, depression today.

1:37.3

There's a lot warring on our hearts for our kids.

1:43.8

And it can be overwhelming.

1:46.3

And one of the things that I find is that we tend to go through seasons,

1:52.4

in and out of seasons, where we are what feel like to be in survival mode,

1:57.6

or we have one particular child that we're really, really focused on because

2:03.5

that child is maybe struggling a little bit in some particular area of their lives.

2:08.7

And then there's times where it's like, you know what, we're all just tired and exhausted

2:13.3

and that type of thing. But what I find is that, and I imagine that most families are the same,
