Summary

Today's episode is a ReAir, in part because Sarah's voice is a bit out of commission due to COVID. She records a brief intro (and promises to be back when she sounds better), and this is followed by a replay of February's episode below, inspired by a tough week on call Sarah had. She outlines 5 things she wished she had done to make life easier on herself -- things that might apply to anyone going into a finite difficult period. 1. Evaluating which habits might temporarily not be serving you 2. Pay attention to basic body maintenance - foundation habts 3. Ask others for help 4. Don’t be afraid to say no if someone is asking for favors 5. Create an "after the storm" list Episode Sponsor: Gusto: Gusto is offering our listeners three months free at gusto.com/sarah. Hello and welcome to best laid plans. This is your host Sarah Hart Unger and this is the podcast

0:05.4

where we talk all things planning and planning adjacent. If my voice sounds different or bad right

0:11.6

now, that is because I currently have COVID and today's episode is not going to be what I had

0:19.0

planned because even my best laid plans have to

0:21.9

change sometimes. Just to tell you what we were going to do, my husband and I had been in the

0:28.5

process of taking a fun couples trip. We were going to visit our big kids who are finishing up at

0:34.1

summer camp. They had visiting day. And after that, we were going to go on our own little

0:39.0

couple's retreat for a few days. And I had convinced him to do an episode with me about his planning

0:44.6

techniques. However, when we went to do our pre-test to go see the kids at camp, he was extremely

0:52.0

positive for COVID, despite having only very minimal symptoms the day

0:56.7

before that we thought were allergies. Anyway, he ended up getting sicker, he's fine now,

1:01.7

and then I tested positive and started feeling bad approximately three days after he did,

1:06.6

so this stuff is contagious. I'm starting to feel slightly better, but just not totally with it.

1:14.3

And I know my voice doesn't sound very good.

1:16.4

So instead of forcing myself to put together a new episode for you guys,

1:20.2

I'm going to air an episode that was I got a lot of positive feedback from several months ago.

1:27.2

It's about planning to get through

1:28.4

harder times and it was inspired by a tough call week I had. I'm happy to report that the

1:33.7

last call week I had was much better and I do feel like I employed a number of these techniques.

1:38.8

So I guess some of this advice really can work sometimes. Anyway, this has been kind of a lesson in understanding

1:48.3

that things aren't always going to go as plan, but I still don't regret putting the plans together

1:52.7

because honestly, we planned a lot of really fun things this summer, and I had to come to terms
