A few weeks before the election, I thought I might actually get an interview with Donald Trump.

Our executive producer was texting with the campaign's press team.

We were like, Trump seems to like going on podcasts. We have a podcast.

And they seem to be entertaining it.

I had one main thing I wanted to ask him.

In a second term, how is he going to treat journalists?

Trump's been quite clear about his other goals for a second term,

dismantling the civil service, seeking retribution against enemies.

And while he certainly has maligned the media a lot,

I wanted to use any time I might get with him on this show about journalism

to ask what he was thinking about doing to the press

in as much detail as I could get, because I think it's important to know what he was thinking about doing to the press in as much details as I could get

especially now that he's won.

Obviously, the interview was a long shot,

but it seemed conceivable enough

that I still had to get ready.
