Summary

In the fall of 2019, Jonathan released his book “Over The Top,” where he disclosed his HIV positive status. The occasion prompted Dr. Watkins-Hayes to write an op-ed on the subject in the NY Times, and inspired the two of them to get together to discuss issues they are both passionate about. Dr. Celeste Watkins-Hayes is a Professor of Sociology and African American Studies and Faculty Fellow at Northwestern University. 0:43.0	audition for like the panel or something there is a little bit of an audition
0:47.8	into review process so the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern is our
0:52.4	center for scholars who are interested in policy relevant
0:57.0	research. So we're not just interested in publishing things that are going to stay on dusty
1:02.1	shells. We want to influence public
1:04.2	debate and policy debate so you basically audition or apply to become a fellow at
1:11.0	the Institute for Policy Research and it's really a wonderful
1:13.4	collective of faculty who are interested in shaping the public conversation.
1:18.3	And Northwestern is basically like it's the smartest school in all of like the midway it is and it's like
1:24.4	it's like the it's like the Ivy League of like Chicago schools it's in Chicago
1:28.0	it's in Chicago Evanston Illinois and it's an amazing place I've been there my entire career. I started in 2002. It is a
1:36.9	place of brilliant scholars and African American studies and gender and women studies
1:42.2	and sociology and all of these studies and
1:44.2	all of these different fields and disciplines and we come together in this really collaborative
1:50.6	environment to produce great scholarship and produce amazing
