Coming to you from University of Chester, historian Tim Grady, this talk looks at the

experiences of German Jews in the First World War.

Informed by research for his book, a deadly legacy, German Jews in the Great War, Tim

reveals how Jewish people played a central role in the conflict and considers the conflicts

multiple legacies.

So as has been said, what I'm going to speak about today is this history of German Jews

and the First World War and then to dip in a bit as well into the legacy of the conflict,

to think a bit about what happens at the war's end and into the early post-war years.

Just as a way to try and illustrate some of the issues and some of the points I want

to ponder here today, I've got one image I just want to share with you to start with and

that's this one here.

So what we've got here is a war memorial, a typical war memorial, typical of the post-First

World War period.
