George Washington was practically born to have his face carved into Mount Rushmore.

Just picture him, stern mouth, powdered hair, staring firmly into the distance, unsmiling.

I mean, he just looks like he belongs on the side of a mountain.

Historian Joseph Ellis called him the Foundingest Father of Them All.

On the other hand, his vice president John Adams called him too illiterate for his station

and reputation.

And the Iroquois, who should really have the final say, called Washington, Gnotocarius,

which roughly translates to town destroyer.
