| 0:00.0 | Good evening. I'm John Yang. It was five years ago today that George Floyd was killed by |
| 0:06.3 | Minneapolis police. Cell phone video of the event, captured by a young witness, sent shockwaves |
| 0:12.1 | around the world and triggered an American reckoning with racial justice and police use of force. |
| 0:17.8 | Today, vigils were held in cities across America to mark the day. In Minneapolis, |
| 0:22.2 | at the intersection where Floyd died, crowds placed flowers on his memorial. But despite the |
| 0:28.3 | protests and the focus on race and racial inequality that followed Floyd's death, a recent Pew |

| 1:21.4 | things. They got informed about racism, hatred, police brutality, systemic racism, power control, that all came out that day. |
| 1:31.1 | You know, afterward, there was a sort of a flurry of changes. Police departments were banning |
| 1:35.2 | chokeholds, they were requiring body cams, requiring training on de-escalating confrontations, |
| 1:41.5 | and yet killings by police officers have gone up since then. What do you make of that? |
| 1:46.9 | I think the mental health that goes along with being a police officer has to be stressful. |
| 1:54.3 | So we need more patience. You know, obviously we need more mental health evaluations, |
| 2:00.2 | but we literally need something to flip this script because you're right. |
| 2:04.8 | There's been more people deceased five years after than five years before George. |
