We took the trip down memory lane last hour. How about Karin Gino Smith? First words from him back with the Jets coming over, of course, in the trade from the Raiders. The Raiders and the Jets swapped seventh and sixth round picks to facilitate this deal. There's some money involved as well. where it all started. And I had forgotten that he had actually retaken the starting job from

Fitz in that 16th season, because he was throwing interceptions left and right, then the poor guy

tears his ACL. And obviously, the rest is history as far as what became of his career from that point up until now.

And to be clear, he chose this return to the Jets, which I think speaks volumes to where he's at,

both as a player and as a person.

I was hoping that the Raiders would give me a chance to kind of weigh my options, which they did.

And, you know, ultimately, I decided that I wanted to go back to New York.

It's a place that I really have held close to my heart. You know, it's a place that gave me my first opportunity. That's pretty cool. I get him a lot of credit for that. Yeah, but I don't fully believe it. I mean, I don't think. Why don't you believe? Well, because they had to trade for him. What other player that had the, this guy's going to get released designation a week ago, two weeks ago that we had heard of ended up getting traded?

So the Jets, in order to make sure that the rest of the league didn't have an opportunity to get to Gino and convince him, you don't want to go back there. That place is a disease. The whole thing is a mess. They had to trade for him. So like think about these other. Kyler Murray released. You know, Kirk Cousins released. All these guys that we had heard about, this, Tuaua released. But it was Gino Smith who had to get traded for so the Jets didn't lose him to go somewhere out. So he might not have, like when he said ultimately, you know, I wanted to go back to New York. I don't think he was the driving force to go back there because they could have released him and he could have gone to New York. Why'd they trade for him then?

I can't speak to that. He did reference, you know, there was an opportunity to stay in Vegas and obviously serve as a mentor for presumably for Andrew Mendoza. He wasn't interested in that. Agreed. But I'm just telling you, though, as part of the options he presented as possibilities. and it's clear that he did have communication with the Jets prior to this trade going down.

And so I think that, you know, with that being said, man, we got a lot of work to do. But we're eager to get to work and to get after this thing. And he talked about DiMario Davis being back, a guy that he knows from his first go-around and wanting to reconnect with the fan base and the community.
