It's spring 1988. Guy's debut album is about to drop and Guy's manager Gene Griffin is not happy.

See the album's about to be big. Gene knows it and so does everyone else and

now he wants to make a few things clear. Gene pushes his way through the brass revolving doors of

MCA records headquarters in Midtown Manhattan. Jazz the button in the

elevator to take him up to the executive offices.

He wants to talk to a guy named Gerald Busby.

We get a call by Gerald Busby, he's like,

He's a VP at Uptown Records, the smaller label

Technically, Jean should be talking to them.

Instead, he's gone straight to MCA, which distributes Uptown's albums.

In other words, Jean skipped over the folks at Uptown and gone straight to the top. Now Gerald at MCA's telling Jimmy at

uptown. You should go up there and talk to him he's very upset or whatever.

Jimmy immediately calls his boss Andre Harrell to figure out what to do.
