Hello everyone, welcome back to another episode of Go Big with B. I'm your host,

0:11.8

Bela Ortega, and I have a very, very, very exciting guest on the podcast today, who I've

0:17.1

been wanting to get on the podcast ever since I started it, but I've also been saving it for the end of season to end everything off with a bang. So I'm here with my best friend, one of my favorite teammates, Maddie Martin. Maddie, how are you doing? I'm good. How are you? I'm good. I'm so happy to be here. I have done lots of episodes with my teammates, but again, Maddie has been a pivotal part of the reason why I came to LSU and a huge, huge leader and just an amazing human for the LSU volleyball team.

And so very, very excited to have her on the podcast today.

0:48.9

So, Maddie, just tell me a bit about yourself, all the basics.

0:53.0

All right.

0:53.8

So my name's Maddie, obviously. I'm from Ormond Beach, Florida. I'm a pre-med major. I'm majoring in biology and in Spanish for fun. For fun, yeah, same. I do the same. And I'm a DS Libero on the LSU the Live-Bal team. So why pre-med? What's your plan with that? Where are you going with that? My plan is to go to medical school. My Y pre-med, it starts a really, really long time ago. But for me, the Y was always my mom. My mom is a stage four breast cancer survivor. And her doctors became my heroes, and what little kid

1:29.9

doesn't want to be a hero when they're older? So since I was 11, that's kind of been my dream.

1:34.4

And then as I got older, I got more into it. And I just realized this is what I want to do.

1:39.2

So that's what I'm doing. So something that I went through with my brother that I'm now obviously seeing you go through

1:45.6

is medical school applications and interviews. And I think that's something that you don't hear

1:50.2

talked about a lot in general, but especially as an athlete. And seeing you go through that

1:55.0

firsthand has definitely been a lot as your teammate, as your friend. So I'd love to hear you talk about that process how

2:02.5

it's been doing both and just kind of for those people who don't know how that process works just

2:07.0

kind of take them through that so it's a very very long process so I guess you could say my process

2:12.3

started when I took the MCAT back in April and then you apply in May.

2:18.3

But nobody can read your application until July.

2:21.3

So it's a very, very long process.

2:23.3

And then from there you get put in this queue and you might get a phone interview.

2:27.3

But if not, then you don't.

2:28.3

If you get the phone interview, you might get a video interview.

2:31.3

If you get the video, you might get the in person. So it's a very,
