Israel's Security Cabinet has approved a plan to take over Gaza City, displacing about

one million Palestinians, nearly half the territory's population.

In an interview with Fox News shortly before the cabinet meeting, Israeli Prime Minister

Benjamin Netanyahu was asked

whether Israel plans to take military control of all of Gaza.

We intend to, in order to assure our security, remove Hamas there, enable the population

to be free of Gaza and to pass it to civilian governance.

That is not Hamas and not anyone advocating the destruction of Israel.

A source told CNN the first phase of the operation will involve the city's evacuation,

with the deadline of October 7th, the second anniversary of the Hamas-led attack that triggered the war.

A second Israeli source says it will significantly expand the humanitarian aid effort during this phase,

but not within Gaza City, as a way to get Palestinians to leave the area.
