This is CBS, I on the World. I'm John Batchel. Bill Rajo, my colleague and co-host of the Foundation for the

Defense of Democracy, a senior fellow. And we're joined by his colleague, David Diyood, of the Foundation

for the Defense of Democracy, watching the several front war that Israel is conducting now

because of the coordinated attacks guided by Tehran in 2023.

We begin with Gaza.

The Reuters headline, Hamas remains potent threat to Israel despite muted response to strikes. Subhead,

Israel inflicted serious damage on Hamas with their strikes that killed the Gaza government chief

and other chief and other top officials. But Palestinian and Israeli sources say the group has

shown that can absorb major losses.

That is several days past over the weekend.

There are continued reports of the IDF moving into Kahn Yunus and Gaza City, not with bombers, but with ground troops.

David, a very good day to you. What do we know about the

operation in Con Unis that was cleared, I guess, six months ago, and Gaza City that was cleared

even more than six months ago? What is the mission statement for the IDF now? Good evening to you.

Good evening. Well, the Israelis have not said exactly what their mission is from the

recursions, but in broad strokes, we can understand that Hamas has done some efforts to reconstitute.

Now is it on the level that it was, um, for October 7th, that's a separate question.

But there have been clear efforts to, uh, efforts to to give off this image that Hamas remains in power.

A lot of the Hamas militant leadership have emerged as the fighting went into a lull.

So presumably the IDF is continuing the job. The IDF's mission statement,

the Israeli government's mission statement was to total victory, the utter destruction of Hamas

militarily and its removal from power. That objective was stopped prematurely by the ceasefire agreement that went into effect earlier this year.
