Hi there, from CNN, I'm Aaron Matthewson, with the five things you need to know for Friday, August 8th.

Exhausted and already displaced Palestinians are pushing back against Israel's plan to take over Gaza City.

The plan would force about a million civilians to leave and extend Israel's, quote, security control over the enclave.

But some of the city's residents say they'll refuse Israeli orders to evacuate

and are calling the takeover plans pointless.

Netanyahu's decision to occupy Gaza,

it's like there's nothing left to occupy in the first place.

We're already dying.

At this point, for the people, there's no difference

anymore, whether he occupies it or not. Some Israelis are protesting the plan as well, with the families

of some of the remaining hostages calling it a, quote, colossal catastrophe. As for a timeline, CNN

reporters in Jerusalem are hearing from Israeli officials that the military

part of the operation will begin sometime around October 7th.

At that point, Gaza City will be evacuated and declared closed.
