very pleased to welcome Lieutenant General David

Daptula, retired U.S. Army Air Force officer who can help us understand the Gaza operation

in these last 11 months from the point of view of professionals.

Writing an essay for Jinsa, I learned this from the general.

Most allied military commanders in all directions taught in their careers the importance of mission,

enemy, terrain, troops, time, and civilians.

David, a very good evening to you, thank you for this. What does that tell us about the way the IDF has conducted its affairs in Gaza?

Good evening to you.

Well, thank you very much. It's a pleasure to have the opportunity to talk with both you John and

Malcolm. The fact of the matter is when the military conducts operations they

consider all the elements to include just exactly what their

mission is, an analysis and understanding of how the enemy operates because

obviously the enemy gets a vote.

The terrain, all the personnel involved,

the timing and the pressures that time put on an operation

and being able to conduct it in

without allowing time to become an enemy.

And then the piece of the civilians in the context of how one

minimizes the impact of unfortunate but collateral damage and how they might be affected.

So all of those elements go into the particular planning of a specific military operation.
