Russia's army launched a big assault on the region of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine.

This opens a new front, with troops advancing towards the city of

Kharkiv from the Russian border to its north. A Ukrainian military source said

that Russia advanced one kilometer towards the city of Vovchansk in an attempt to create a 10 kilometer buffer zone inside the country.

Ukraine sent reinforcements to the region. The United Nations

warned that an Israeli invasion of Raffer could cut off supplies of humanitarian

aid to Gaza.

Israeli troops amassed on the outskirts of the city.

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's prime minister, promised the country would, quote, fight with our fingernails, if need be,

an apparent rebuke to President Joe Biden, who warned he could halt some supplies of American

weapons if the operation goes ahead.

Meanwhile the UN General Assembly called on the Security Council to admit Palestine as a

member.

America's mission voted against the resolution ahead of the vote.

Israel's delegate shredded a copy of the UN Charter in protest.
