It's Thursday, November 2nd, and this is your morning wire afternoon update.

The Biden administration is seeking multiple humanitarian pauses in the Israel-Hamos war,

aimed at getting aid into Gaza and getting hostages and foreign nationals out.

During a briefing Thursday, reporters pressed White House National Security Council spokesman

John Kirby about what exactly a humanitarian pause means.

We do believe that humanitarian pauses could be of value, but there has to be credible

support on both sides here for where to do it, when to do it, for how long to do it, and

for what purpose.

And we're continuing to work with partners in the region, including those who have a direct

line of communication with Hamas to see if that's possible.

The goal would be to get aid in, to maybe get people out that want to evacuate.

Kirby said he was hopeful that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other powers

involved would consider pauses on a case-by-case basis.

This comes as President Biden announced the evacuation of 74 Americans out of Gaza.

Cornell University has canceled all classes this Friday, citing extraordinary stress among

the students, following one student's arrest for allegedly making violent anti-semitic

threats online.
