The coming days will be make or break for humanitarian efforts in Gaza. That's what the UN's age chief told the BBC after Israel started letting more supplies into the enclave.

But there are concerns that getting them to the people who need them will be dangerous for humanitarian workers

and could take too long to save people who are dying right now.

The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza says 14 people have died because of famine and malnutrition

in just the past 24 hours. The ministry said that takes the total number of hunger deaths to 147, including 88 children.

This UN spokesperson told CNN about the suffering she saw on the ground in Gaza.

Go out in the street and you will see children, women, men, elderly people rummaging through the trash, looking for scraps of food,

people looking very, very thin, very gaunt. Of course, I've seen being in hospitals, people being admitted for extreme exhaustion.

I myself don't recognize my friends because they look so thin. And when they come to see me, I'm aghast and I have no words to even say to them

because they are in such a desperate state now.
