People who cannot have children themselves being helped out by those who can. But how is the child lost in all

the shuffle? And with surrogacy becoming very, very popular among same-sex couples, what are the added

problems there? Welcome back to Issues, Et cetera. I'm Todd Wilkin, joining us to talk about

gay couples in surrogacy, Katie Faust,

a married mother of four children in Seattle, founder and director of the Children's Rights

Organization, Them Before Us. She's editor and author of a chapter in the book, Pro Child Politics,

an author of a recent column titled How Legalizing Serogacy Helps Activists' Queer queer babies. Katie, welcome back.

Hi, great to be with you again. Tell us about this recent article that you say is really

kind of advocacy disguised as scholarship in the journal Psychoanalysis Culture and Society.

Yes, last month, a gay father named Belaz Baros, who has a child through surrogacy, created this sort of

pseudo-academic article about how surrogacy queers babies.

And Colin Wright, evolutionary biologist and fellow at the Manhattan Institute sort of did a

diagnostic of this article in the way that it really sort of sexualized infants and I think

that that is one way of understanding the queering babies aspect of this like Baros talked about

how like when his motherless baby was like against his skin searching for a nipple because
