They were accosted in the dead forest by a sentient death claw who introduced himself as Cairn.

He explained that Johann had come to the fall for some reason and discovered him in his mate's duel.

Somehow, Johann managed to impart some semblance of intelligence to the two death claws.

However, this act angered Cairn and he attacked Johann in a fit of rage.

Defeated but not dead, Cairn tracked Johann to the Emerald Acropolis, where he perhaps hoped to catch him by surprise.

After speaking with Apex, Cairn agreed that a more diplomatic approach was what was best for everyone involved in getting his mate back.

Cairn left the runaways, dragging a supermutant's corpse behind him into the darkness.

When another entity came in its place, a horrifically mutated super mutant who introduced himself as Berkeley,

he explained that he saw their campfire and came to

investigate. The cordial mutant returned to inform Johan of their arrival, and the next morning,

Alvin and Apex set off into a burgeoning young township, where mutants, ghouls, and raiders alike,

intermingled.

After ascending the steps of Green Seat,

Johan greeted his old friends,

welcoming them to his dream come true.
