So deal or no deal, the talk of training camp, at least through the first three days, Chris, has been Tom Brady's contract situation. Not hearing much. In fact, Tommy Kern, NBC Sports, Boston, I'm essentially paraphrasing from his column a few days back. But he makes it sound like, okay, there's been talks, but nothing in terms of numbers. It just sounds like it's been between Tom Brady and the team. Yeah, we'll figure something out. But no numbers being discussed? Are you surprised by any of that? Yeah, I'm a little surprised by that. I mean, it's a little unusual for Tom to be in a situation where he could potentially go into the season in the final year of his contract.

They've always gotten these things done ahead of time.

Really, the last time I can remember was sort of like this was 2010, where it took basically

until the NFL season opener for his deal to get done.

If you remember, he made the car accident, but also, I don't know if you remember this,

he did a story with, like, Michael Silver, and I don't know if you remember this he did a story with like michael silver and i don't know if michael silver was at yahoo then or where he was sports illustrate but there was a story that he did with michael silver where he basically expressed some unhappiness about his contract not being done so that's the last time i can remember where it sort of went you know this far and there was sort of the

phony baloney adjustment they made last year where they gave him those incentives and he didn't reach any of those so it's really interesting i said this to you yesterday on feldgren maz i feel like it's a little bit of a tug of war between brady and belichick because i think we're up to Belichick, this is like a year-to-year thing with Tom, and we're going to keep his salary relatively low.

I don't care what he's done in the past. He's a 42-year-old quarterback. And with Tom, I think it's okay. I've taken discounts all the time. I don't have to be the highest-paid guy, but I just want to be respected, and I'd like a little security. and yeah, give me a couple of years beyond what my deal is. And if I retire, I retire before then.

I think there are two sort of competing agendas here with Tom's contract well yeah either way someone's

getting pissed off is what it feels like well last year last year, I mean, so last year that's kind of, you know, they kind of split the baby. It was like, okay, here you go. Like, Tom, you're going to get this contract adjustment and you're going to get Alex Guerrero back on the plane. But Bill, we didn't give this guy any more guaranteed money.'s going to have to earn it you know you're
