I'm your host, Sean McKenna. It is my very great pleasure to present this interview with Amanda Amoebik-Nolton, GAMAS with Jobs Conference Call Regular and Central Figure in the GWJ community. Ever since I first spoke with Amanda back in 2015, they were high up on my list of people

It was just a matter of finding the right moment for us both to sit down at the microphone.

As it happens with the disparity in time zones, that right moment was late on a Friday evening in Vancouver and just a few minutes before Saturday morning sunrise 7,500 kilometres to the east in the UK.

I hope you enjoy this conversation with Amanda Memebik-Nolton. Originally born in Naperville, Illinois, which is a small town outside of Chicago,

and because my dad was in the military, he was Navy.

And so we traveled around a bunch.

And I think we ended up in the Seattle area after we were about two.

I was, my sister and I were about two years old.

So, yeah, it's, so Seattle was where I grew up and where I spent most of my time and then, um,

about 10 years ago, a little over 10 years ago, I met my, uh, husband and then that's how

I ended up in Canada. So, married a Canadian and got up here. So, um, so how long, how long

were you doing the traveling around as part of the, you know, sort of Navy family?

Not for very long. Like I think once we were two, my dad got a job outside of the military

working for Bell Laboratories, which was in the Chicago area at the time. And then he got

transferred. I could be completely wrong. He got transferred to a project in the University of Washington, time and then he got transferred. I could be completely wrong.
