We just did the NFL draft. As I'm recording this, It was a couple of weeks ago. This is where the professional American football teams get to pick from all the best college football players. And it's if you're not a fan of sports, you know, this is, it's an incredibly boring event. But if you are a fan of sports, it's an incredibly

0:39.6

boring event. There's not much to watch. It takes a very long time. It's pretty drab. But one

0:44.8

thing I do kind of like is getting a peek into the psyche of a kid who just found out they're

0:50.4

going to be a gajillionaire and they're going to be famous because they got drafted to play at the highest level of this sport. And you listen to the interviews and you'll,

1:00.5

you know, this last time around I heard two very different kinds of kids. One is, you know,

1:06.4

very flamboyant to clearly trying to do the, I don't know what you would call it, like more entertainer

1:11.8

than football player routine. Then I heard one of these kids come out and the whole speech was about

1:16.8

like all, you just got the sense that he was going to get to indulge every crazy idea or impulse

1:23.3

he's ever had ever. Like now I've got the freedom the money the resources the fame the positioning

1:27.9

to do anything i want to do and i'd be very nervous if i were the team that just drafted him

1:34.6

as he's talking about this newfound freedom and all of the crazy things you get the impression

1:39.1

he's probably going to want to do with it well then you hear the interview with the very next kid that gets drafted. And he's

1:45.9

from the same school, the same part of the country. It's practically the same person, but he's got a

1:51.3

totally different perspective. And he comes out and talks about how this opportunity is going to give

1:56.6

him the freedom to become a part of a community, to serve other people, to learn to be a

2:01.9

great teammate, and to better himself as a person, and to help his family. And both parties are

2:07.5

using the same operative word, the same operative principle. It's freedom. But they're talking about

2:13.6

using it for completely different things. Likewise in Galatians 5, that theme keeps coming up,

2:21.3

slavery versus freedom, slavery versus freedom, freedom in Christ. And no doubt there were people

2:27.0

in the conversation who were pushing back on Paul and were saying, what does he mean by freedom?

2:33.7

And probably they were accusing him.

2:35.5

Well, definitely they were accusing him of using the term freedom in Christ the same way the
